Overview of research ¨Japanese
Nanoscale microstructures have scales smaller than the wavelength of light and, therefore, they operate as a medium with refractive index averaged over the structure for light waves. By artificially fabricating nanostructures on a substrate surface, the refractive index distribution and wavelength dispersion can be created as desired.
This research is focused on the optical nanostructure devices for use in optical information and communication devices and they are designed, produced and evaluated experimentally. Processing technologies are also investigated with the goal of creating new optical devices that utilize nanostructures. With a combination of functional materials and optical nanostructures, optical devices with greater functionality are expected to be realized.
